BPF Aspirational Neuroscience Prize Meetup @ SFN2019

October 22, 2019 @ 6:30 pm - 9:30 pm

Free

Long-term Memory Encoding and Connectome Decoding Meetup

First in the BPF Aspirational Neuroscience Prize series of meetups.
Hosted by the Brain Preservation Foundainraintion (BPF), brainpreservation.org.

All neuroscientists are invited to this meetup that will discuss and debate current models of how long-term learning and memory are encoded at the synaptic and molecular level. A short presentation and award ceremony will highlight and honor exciting recent experiments and explain how these results support or refute textbook models of long-term memory encoding.

This will be followed by a moderated panel discussion addressing this year’s question of the meetup: Can we decode long-term memories from the connectome?

This question, and its moral implications, has evoked much controversy in the popular press but little in the way of substantial scientific discussion. This meetup will be an opportunity for neuroscientists with opposing views to debate the topic in front of an audience of fellow neuroscientists. The panel discussion will be followed by a social with catered snacks and drinks to stimulate further discussion for all.
